Harrisburg Edges Trenton 2-1 In 11 Innings On Sunday Afternoon

(Trenton, NJ)- Harrisburg edged Trenton 2-1 on Sunday afternoon in 11 innings at Waterfront Park. The Thunder and the Harrisburg Senators split their four-game series. Harrisburg leads the season-series 8-5.

Harrisburg scored the go-ahead run in the 11th inning. Left fielder Francisco Plasencia led off the frame with a solo home run off of Thunder Reliever Eric Wordekemper (0-1) to give the Senators a 2-1 lead. The home run was Plasencia's first in Double-A. Harrisburg Reliever Atahualpa Severino (1-0) picked up the win with three shutout innings. Wordekemper took his first loss of the season. Trenton Outfielder Richie Robnett led off the bottom of the 11th inning with a double off of Harrisburg Reliever Carlos Martinez. But, Martinez coaxed three consecutive groundouts to notch his first save for the Senators. Robnett had two doubles in the loss for the Thunder, and extended his hitting streak to 10 games. Trenton took a 1-0 lead in the second inning. With two outs in the second inning, Left fielder James Cooper doubled off of Harrisburg Starting Pitcher Brad Meyers. Outfielder Edwar Gonzalez followed with an RBI single to plate Cooper. Harrisburg tied the game at 1-1 in the seventh inning. With two outs in the frame, Shortstop Freddie Bynum connected on an RBI single off of Thunder Reliever Josh Schmidt to tie the game at 1-1.

Trenton Starting Pitcher Wilkin De La Rosa hurled six shutout innings. He yielded three hits. De La Rosa struck out five and walked four. He has now thrown 13 scoreless innings during his last two starts. Meyers tossed six hits and one run in five-plus innings of work for a no-decision. Meyers has two no-decisions in two starts against the Thunder since his call-up from Potomac (High-A).

Trenton is off on Monday. The Thunder start a three-game series against the Reading Phillies (Double-A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies) on Tuesday night.
