Connecticut Defenders News Release

ERIE, PA- With a quick turn around for Sunday afternoon's series finale, Connecticut looked nothing but a first place team. The Defenders pounded out 20 hits to cruise to a 12-2 victory over Erie and claimed the series at Jerry Uht Park.

For the fifth time in six games Connecticut grabbed the early lead but this time held on for good as they scored three runs off of five hits in the first inning sealed off with SS-Brandon Crawford's RBI double.

The Seawolves would touch the scoreboard in the bottom of the inning with a solo homer by DH-Deik Scram.

Scram struck again in the fourth with a leadoff walk, stole second and advanced to third on a Williams' throwing error. CF-Casper Wells drove him in with a RBI groundout but that's as close as Erie would get.

Defenders' starter RHP-Geivy Garcia (2-3) was impressive hurling five strong innings, allowing just two earned runs off of one hit and tied a season high with six strikeouts while earning his second win of the season and road-trip.

Connecticut blew the game wide open in the seventh inning sending eleven batters to the plate to score eight runs off of a new season high eight hits to take an 11-2 lead. The inning was highlighted by C-Jackson Williams' leadoff double and majestic three run homer to left field.

The Defenders added another run in the eighth off RF-Bobby Felmy's RBI single to complete all nine starters to produce a hit.

The Connecticut offense was boasted by DH-Eddy Martinez-Esteve's 4 for 5 (2B, 2RBI, R) day along with a 3 for 4 afternoon by Pill and Crawford.

Connecticut will travel home to Norwich and enjoy an off day tomorrow before returning to action at Dodd Stadium Tuesday night at 6:35pm when the Southern Division leading Akron Aeros (Indians) visit for the first time.
