Connecticut Defenders News Release

ERIE, PA- After three rain delays that totaled 3 hours and 15 minutes, Connecticut fell to Erie by the final of 11-7 Saturday/Sunday at Jerry Uht Park.

The Seawolves came out a blazing in the fourth inning sending all nine batters to the plate which produced four runs off of four hits and took advantage of an error to grab a comfortable 5-1 lead in which they would never relinquish cruising to a game two win.

Erie got out to a 1-0 lead in the home half of the third inning with an RBI triple by LF-Deik Scram to plate DH-Andy Dirks.

Connecticut came right back with a leadoff triple by 2B-Brock Bond in the fourth only to later score on a RBI single by 3B-Brad Boyer to tie things at one all.

The Defenders drummed up a two out rally in the sixth when Boyer got aboard with a single and then 1B-Brett Pill lifted a two run homer over the leftfield wall to get Connecticut right back in the ballgame at 5-3.

The skies would open for the third time to place the game in another rain delay.

Action would resume in the bottom of the sixth where the Seawolves would deliver another four run inning to blow the game open at 9-3.

Connecticut would respond in the seventh and ninth with a pair of runs but it was enough.

Defenders' starter RHP-Garrett Broshuis (3-3) suffered the loss allowing five runs-three earned off of eight hits and walked a pair. Erie's starter RHP-Pat Stanley (6-4) earned the win firing six good innings of five hit ball, allowed three earned runs and struck out two.

Sunday's series finale rubber match will feature Connecticut RHP-Geivy Garcia (1-3) versus Erie RHP-Jonah Nickerson (8-6). First pitch is slated for 1:05pm from Jerry Uht Park. Fans can catch all the action on the Defenders Flagship Station WICH 1310AM or online at ctdefenders.com.
