Charlotte Checkers News Release

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Charlotte Checkers announced today that they will host their second annual "Pink in the Rink" game presented by Hardee's on Sunday, Feb. 10 against the Pensacola Ice Pilots.

During the contest, Checkers players will wear special pink jerseys in celebration of the night's festivities. The jerseys will bear the logos of the three organizations that the night is set to benefit: The American Cancer Society, Carolina Breast Friends and Susan G. Komen for the Cure Charlotte Affiliate. Also, this game will mark the first time in Checkers history that all off-ice officials will be women. After the game concludes, the Checkers will hold a jersey auction which will include a first-time ever pink and black referee jersey.

Lions Jewelers is set for a diamond giveaway during the contest. The first 500 women to register at the Lions Jewelers table in the main concourse will be handed a stone that could potentially be an authentic diamond. Stone recipients will need to go to a Lions Jewelers store to find out if their giveaway turns out to be the lone real diamond out of the 500 given away.

Another giveaway on Sunday includes a Checkers team poster presented by NC Zoo and Vault Hybrid Energy Soda to the first 2,500 fans in attendance.

The Checkers began their 15th season of play as a member of the ECHL. The next home game takes place on Feb. 9 against the Pensacola Ice Pilots. In the team's 14-year history, the Checkers have made the playoffs 10 times including three consecutive playoff appearances to date. The Checkers are in their third season of play at St. Lawrence Homes Home Ice at Charlotte Bobcats Arena. Season tickets are on sale now with full-season packages starting at just $175.
