Dayton Bombers News Release

Dayton, OH- The defending American Conference Champion Dayton Bombers opened up their three game home stand with a tough 3-1 loss to South division foe Mississippi Sea Wolves in front of 3,549 at the Nutter Center on Friday night.

Five years after their last match up; Dayton and Mississippi opened their fifth game all-time with an even tempo. The first period saw multiple opportunities on either end, yet remained scoreless at the break. Both teams matched on shots as well, each earning 10 in the first twenty minutes.

The second period began in much the same way as the first, until the Sea Wolves were able to light the lamp on the power play with Mike Couch's second goal of the season. Despite out shooting Mississippi 8-6 in the middle period, Dayton remained scoreless after forty minutes, trailing 1-0. Bombers netminder Rejean Beauchemin did surpass his 2,000 career save mark in the period.

Mississippi managed to send two goals past goaltender Beauchemin in the third period. Dayton battled back in the second half of the period, as Matt Beaudoin scored his team-leading 27th goal of the season (51st career point) assisted by Mike Walsh and Alex Greig at the 16:27 mark. Despite cutting the lead to two, Mississippi held onto their lead to earn their first-ever franchise win over the Bombers. Highlights in the closing stages of regulation featured four fights in less than three minutes (Berry vs. Trull, Dougherty vs. Cava, Greig vs.Couch, Labenski vs. Flamminio).

The Bombers record now stands at 19-17-8, and they remain in sole possession of fourth place in the North Division.
