Cyclones Tie Club Record With Eighth Straight Win, 4-3
February 8, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL)
Cincinnati Cyclones News Release
CINCINNATI, Ohio - Jason Deitsch's shootout goal in the fourth round was the only goal of the shootout in a 4-3 win for the Cincinnati Cyclones Friday night over Trenton at U.S. Bank Arena. The Cyclones scored a pair of third period goals to come-from-behind and force the extra frame and then win it in the shootout.
It was the club record-tying eighth straight win and the club-record 14th straight home game (12-0-2) without a regulation time loss. Cincinnati now has a five point lead over second-place Elmira in the North Division standings.
The Cyclones opened the scoring at 9:36 of the opening period when rookie Travis Fuller rifled home his twelfth goal from Jason Deitsch and Coru Urquhart. Fuller pulled the trigger in the circle to the right of Devils netminder Dave Caruso about 20 feet out to net the game's first score. Trenton led the shots on goal battle, 12-7, in the opening frame.
Trenton knotted the game up in the middle frame with the only score in the segment. Joe Rooney fired home his seventh goal of the year on a tight angle shot to the left of Cyclones netminder Dov Grumet-Morris. Zach Tarkir and Ryan Gunderson added the assists. The Devils won the shots on goal battle in the period, 19-10.
The third period saw goals from Matt Syroczynski (17) and Cory Urquhart (10) force the extra frames and give Cincinnati the win.
For the first time in team history, the Cincinnati Cyclones are 25 games above .500, with a 33-8-3 record and sole possession of first place in the North Division. The triumph gives Cincinnati a 17-2-1 record since December 15. Trenton is 18-23-3. The magic number for clinching a playoff berth is 25.
Cincinnati is next in action on Saturday (Feb. 9) with a 7:30pm showdown with Mississippi. It is Twister Bobblehead Night, with the first 1500 fans receiving bobbleheads of the Cyclones mascot. That contest is the third of a four-game homestand for the Cyclones, who are 12-0-2 in their last 14 at U.S. Bank Arena. Cincinnati has not lost in regulation time on home ice since November 24.
Tickets for all Cyclones games can be purchased at the U.S. Bank Arena box office, all Ticketmaster outlets including select Kroger stores, charge by phone at 513-562-4949 or online at ticketmaster.com.
