Hamilton Loses to River Rats

ALBANY, NY - The Hamilton Bulldogs had their two-game winning streak snapped on Saturday as they lost 6-3 to the Albany River Rats at the Pepsi Arena.

The Bulldogs record through 54 games now falls to 21 wins, 22 losses, 6 overtime losses, and 5 shootout losses.

The River Rats opened the scoring at the 8:44 mark of the first period on the power play. Rookie forward Zach Parise scored his 12th goal of the season with assists going to Ahren Nittle, and former Bulldogs defenceman Bobby Allen.

Hamilton then evened the score 1-1 at 11:55. Chris Higgins took a rebound and fired in his 16th marker of the season. Collecting assists were Antti Miettinen and Andrew Archer.

The Bulldogs out shot the River Rats by 17 to 5 margin in the first period.

The second period would see a total of six goals being scored and Albany taking a 5-3 lead. Dean McAmmond scored twice for Albany, while Ilkka Pikkarainen and Ahren Nittel added single goals for the River Rats. Hamilton had second period goals from Gavin Morgan and Corey Locke.

Yann Danis replaced Bulldogs goaltender Dan Ellis after Albany's fourth goal at 9:51 of the second period.

Albany's Bobby Allen rounded out the game's scoring by earning his fifth goal of the season on the power play at 14:41 of the third period.

Also of note, the River Rats Aaron Voros had three assists in the contest.

Albany scored three goals on nine power play opportunities. Hamilton did not score on eight power plays.

Despite the loss, the Bulldogs fired a season high 49 shots on goal.

The Hamilton Bulldogs next action will take place on Sunday, February 20th, when they host the St. John's Maple Leafs at Copps Coliseum on Investors Group Kids Day.
