Houston Aeros News Release

HOUSTON, Texas – The American Hockey League's Houston Aeros have signed right wing Joey Tetarenko to a professional tryout offer, the team announced Saturday. Tetarenko is expected to start practicing with the Aeros immediately.

"Joey is well-known for his competitive instincts and physical play in both the NHL and AHL," said Aeros general manager Tom Lynn. "He is an ideal addition to a team gearing up for a stretch drive and playoff run, especially in our closely-contested West Division."

Tetarenko, 26, is in his seventh pro season. In 2003-04, he totaled seven points (1-6=7) and a career-high 167 penalty minutes in 57 games with AHL Lowell. He also saw action in two NHL games with Carolina. The 6-foot-2, 215-pound native of Prince Albert, Sask., had his best pro season with AHL San Antonio in 2002-03, registering 16 points (4-12=16) and 123 penalty minutes. Tetarenko has 73 games of NHL experience with Florida, Ottawa and Carolina, with five points (4-1=5) and 176 penalty minutes. He captained the 1997-98 Memorial Cup-winning Portland Winterhawks.

Tetarenko is of Native American descent (Metis). NHL'ers Sheldon Souray, Scott Ferguson, Arron Asham and Theo Fleury are also of Metis descent.
