Hamilton Hosts Manitoba And Chicago; Travels To Binghamton This Week

The Hamilton Bulldogs (American Hockey League affiliate of the Montreal Canadiens) will be competing three times this week. The 'Dogs will host North Division rival the Manitoba Moose (AHL affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks) on Wednesday, January 21st at 7:30 p.m. at Copps Coliseum. On Friday, January 23rd, the Bulldogs welcome the Chicago Wolves (AHL affiliate of the Atlanta Thrashers) to Copps Coliseum for a 7:30 p.m. match-up. Hamilton closes out the week in Binghamton for a game against the Senators (AHL affiliate of the Ottawa Senators) on Saturday, January 24th at 7:05 p.m. at Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena.

Last week, Hamilton went 2-2-0-0 bringing their overall record to 26-15-2-0. The 'Dogs started the week with two hometown games, first dropping a 3-1 decision to the Grand Rapids Griffins on Wednesday, January 14th in the Bulldogs' 1000th game. On Friday, January 16th, the Bulldogs shut out the Lake Erie Monsters 4-0 for the second Friday in a row. Hamilton then travelled to Syracuse for two games. On Saturday, January 17th, the Crunch were defeated 6-2 by the 'Dogs before they beat Hamilton 6-3 on Monday, January 19th at Onondaga County War Memorial at Oncenter.

BULLDOGS NOTES:

- The American Hockey League announced January 7th that Hamilton Bulldogs defenceman Yannick Weber has been named as a starter for the 2009 PlanetUSA AHL All-Star team. The AHL All-Star Classic takes place on January 26th and will be broadcast on TSN.

- D Yannick Weber has nine goals this season. He needs one more goal to tie the Bulldogs' franchise record for most goals by a defenceman in one season.

- On January 19th G Marc Denis was reassigned to Hamilton from Montreal

- Bulldog C Ben Maxwell has extended his point streak to seven games, which has seen him a total of eight points (four goals, four assists)

- Binghamton is currently fourth in the East Division with a record of 22-13-3-3

- Hamilton is 8-5-1-1-1 in 16 all-time contests against Binghamton

- So far this season Hamilton is 0-2-0-0 against the B-Sens

ALUMNI WATCH:

There are just over 40 former Bulldogs in the NHL at this time. Over 60 percent of the players on Hamilton's all-time roster have played in a minimum of one NHL game. Three former Bulldogs head or assistant coaches (Doug Jarvis, Claude Julien, and Geoff Ward) are currently in a coaching capacity in the NHL. Here are a few highlights and accomplishments of ex-'Dogs from this past week:

- Montreal LW Andrei Kostitsyn recorded goals in three straight games last week. He scored in a 3-1 loss to Boston (Jan. 13), a 3-2 win over Nashville (Jan. 15) and a 5-4 shootout win over Ottawa (Jan. 17). He has now scored goals in five-straight games.

- Montreal LW Greg Stewart earned his first-career NHL point, an assist, in a 5-4 shootout win over Ottawa (Jan. 17).

- Atlanta D Ron Hainey recorded two assists in a 4-3 overtime win over Toronto (Jan. 16).

- Detroit RW Daniel Cleary recorded two points. He scored a goal in a 4-3 win over Anaheim (Jan. 14) and an assist in a 6-5 loss to San Jose (Jan. 17).

- Minnesota RW Antti Miettinen earned three assists this past week. In a 6-3 win over Phoenix he record two assists (Jan. 13) before earned an assist in a 5-1 win over Edmonton (Jan. 15).

- Edmonton C Shawn Horcoff recorded two points this week. He scored a goal in a 3-2 win over Colorado (Jan. 16) before posting an assist in a 6-3 win over Phoenix (Jan. 18).

In addition Cable 14 will air live broadcasts 12 of club's 39 home games at Copps Coliseum. In a joint venture with Mohawk College, Cable 14 will also broadcast the 27 Hamilton Bulldogs' home games not being shown live in their entirety as 'Dogs-in-an-Hour at 11:00 p.m. on the night of the game.

Cable 14 will also carry Rogers Television's live coverage of five Hamilton Bulldogs versus Toronto Marlies games at Ricoh Coliseum.

BULLDOUGS FOUNDATION: Ben Maxwell was named as the Community Player of the Month for December. Ben has been actively involved in the community and spent his free time making a difference in the lives of children. On December 9th, he took part in the Bulldogs annual visit to McMaster Children's Hospital, signing autographs and singing Christmas carols. He also visited schools throughout the city, awarding prizes to students who successfully completed one of the various Bulldogs Educational Programs. His dedication to hockey, along with his enthusiasm to give back to the community symbolizes a passion to strive above and beyond all expectations.
