Binghamton Senators News Release

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Ottawa Senators recalled today center Peter Regin from the Binghamton Senators of the American Hockey League.

In his first season with the B-Sens, Regin has scored eight goals and added 12 assists while recording 24 penalty minutes in 29 games. The 22-year old missed 12 games due to injury. Regin has five multi-point games. The 6-2, 195-pound center has had two-goal games twice, including Binghamton's 6-4 win against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on Friday, Jan. 16.

Regin was Ottawa's second third-round pick, 87th overall, in the 2004 NHL entry draft.

The native of Herning, Denmark, played all of his hockey in his homeland with the exception of the last three seasons, when he suited up for Sweden's Timra IK senior and junior squads. During the 2007-08 season with the Swedish Elite League squad, Regin established career highs with 55 games, 31 points (12 goals, 19 assists) and 36 penalty minutes, finishing third in overall team scoring and second in goals. Regin also represented Denmark for a fourth consecutive time at the 2008 IIHF world championship. He scored the game-tying goal with 38 seconds remaining in regulation time against Belarus and notched the game-winner in overtime.

Should Regin play in his first NHL game for the Senators against the Washington Capitals tonight, he will become the fifth player born in Denmark to have done so. The others are Poul Popiel (Boston Bruins, 1965-66), Jannik Hansen (Vancouver Canucks, 2007-08), Frans Nielsen (New York Islanders, 2006-07) and Mikkel Boedker (Phoenix Coyotes, 2008-09).

The B-Sens return to home ice on Wednesday night when the Philadelphia Phantoms visit the Arena for a 7:05 p.m. puck drop. Good seats remain for this contest. Tickets can be purchased at www.ticketmaster.com, by calling ticket master at 722-7272, or at the Arena box office inside the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena.
