Blues Assign Wagner and Whitfield to Peoria

St. Louis, Mo. (January 20, 2009) - St. Louis Blues President John Davidson announced today the club has assigned defenseman Steve Wagner and forward Trent Whitfield to the Blues' American Hockey League affiliate, the Peoria Rivermen.

Wagner, 24, has skated in 16 games for the Blues this season, collecting two points (one goal, one assist) along with 18 penalty minutes. The 6-1, 191-pound defenseman has played in 40 National Hockey League games, all with St. Louis, collecting 10 points (three goals, seven assists). This season with Peoria, Wagner has played in 23 games, notching 13 points (four goals, nine assists) and 17 penalty minutes.

The Grand Rapids, Minnesota native was signed by the Blues as an undrafted free agent on March 20, 2007.

Whitfield, 31, played in two games for the Blues this season, registering one assist. He has skated in 36 games for the Rivermen this season, collecting 25 points (12 goals, 13 assists) along with 23 penalty minutes. The 5-11, 204-pound forward has played in 176 National Hockey League games, recording 28 points (11 goals, 17 assists) and 97 penalty minutes

The Alameda, Saskatchewan native was originally drafted by Boston in the fourth round, 100th overall in the 1996 Entry Draft.
