Hamels Makes Rehab Start for Iowa

SAN ANTONIO, TX - Left-hander Cole Hamels is slated to make a rehab start for the Iowa Cubs tonight in San Antonio. First pitch from Nelson W. Wolff Stadium comes at 7:05 p.m. Hamels has been sidelined with a left oblique strain since June 29.

Hamels, 35, is 162-117 with a 3.38 ERA in 412 career games over 14 major league seasons. Among active left-handed pitchers, he ranks third in wins (162), second in games started (611) and second in strikeouts (2,512). Hamels has made at least 20 starts in 13-straight seasons.

The four-time All-Star is in his first full season with the Chicago Cubs after a mid-season trade in 2018 from Texas. He is 6-3 with a 2.98 ERA (33ER/99.2IP), 35 walks and 97 strikeouts in 17 2019 starts.

The lefty was originally drafted by Philadelphia 17th overall in the 2002 draft and helped lead the team to a World Series Championship in 2008.
