Buffalo Bisons News Release

The best hitter in the International League did it again on Saturday night!

IL All-Star Matt Hague had three more hits for the Bisons, but none bigger than his RBI-single in the seventh inning that gave the Herd its second consecutive 5-4 win over the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders at Coca-Cola Field.

After Scranton/Wilkes-Barre rallied from four runs down, Hague sent a dagger into their hearts with a line drive into centerfield off reliever Jose Ramirez. Andy Burns raced home from second base for the game-winning run to give Buffalo an 8-4 record so far in July.

The Bisons are now back at the .500-mark at 45-45, heading into Sunday's first half finale.

Hague's three-hit performance was his 36th multi-hit game of the season. After lining a single off the pitcher and into right field in the first inning, he got aboard again in the third with his wheels. A check-swing blooper landed in no-man's land behind the pitcher's mound and the All-Star beat the throw to first base.

But there was no-doubting Hague's game winner in the seventh. After taking a first pitch ball, he lined Ramirez's next offering into centerfield. Hague now has 114 hits on the season before any other International League batter has even reached the century mark. His .348 average continues to pace the circuit.

Buffalo built a 4-0 lead through five innings. Luke Scott singled home a run in the first inning while the Herd plated two more in the fourth with a ground ball and a passed ball following a Scott walk and an Alex Hassan single. The first of Burns' two hits on the night was an RBI-double over the centerfielder's head in the fifth.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre erased the lead with the longball in the sixth. After Bisons starter Matt Boyd cruised through the first two trips through the RailRiders' order, Ramon Flores got the lefty for a three-run shot into the Bully Hill Party Deck. Greg Bird tied the score two batters later with his first career Triple-A home run.

The win for Buffalo went to Joel Pineiro, who threw 2.1 innings of shutout relief.

BISONS NOTES:Bobby Korecky faced one batter in the ninth to earn his sixth save of the season. His 28 career saves as a Bison are two shy of Fernando Cabrera's modern era record...Alex Hassan finished with two doubles in four at-bats...Former Blue Jays and MLB stars Mookie Wilson and Cecil Fielder threw out ceremonial first pitches as part of 'Blue Jays Weekend' at Coca-Cola Field.
