Bats Split Doubleheader with Mud Hens, 3-1 and 2-1

TOLEDO, Oh- The Louisville Bats (44-47) split today's doubleheader with the Toledo Mud Hens (40-50) at Fifth Third Field, 3-1 and 2-1.

In game one the Mud Hens had four singles and a walk that allowed them to score three runs and take the lead, 3-1, in the fifth inning. Dixon Machado had a two-run single that scored Corey Jones and Josh Wilson.

Starting on the mound in game one for the Bats was righty Matt Buschmann (L, 7-7, 3.89). He went six innings, gave up seven hits, allowed three runs all earned, walked one, and struck out seven.

The Mud Hens lefty Mike Belfiore (W, 4-8, 5.40) started in game one and took his fourth win of the season. He went six and one third innings, gave up six hits, one run earned, walked two, and struck out four.

The Bats lone run in game one came from a Jermaine Curtis single that allowed Brennan Boesch to score in the second. Curtis went 2-for-3 in game one.

In game two the Bats were on the board first in the third by an RBI single by Kristopher Negron. In the fifth another RBI single by Josh Satin made the game, 2-0.

On the mound to start in game two for the Bats was righty Donovan Hand. He went four and two thirds, gave up four hits, one run earned, walked one, and struck out two. Hand was replaced two outs into the fifth by lefty Joe Paterson (W, 1-1, 4.50), who received his first win of the season. He went two thirds with zeros across the board.

The Mud Hens started lefty Kyle Ryan (L, 0-6, 4.58) on the mound for game two hopeful to have his first victory of the season. He went five innings, gave up nine hits, two runs, both earned, walked two, and struck out two.

The Mud Hens only scored one in the fifth from an RBI single by Trayvon Robinson, but were unable to completely answer back in game two.

Righty Jumbo Diaz (S, 8) closed out game two in the seventh to secure the win for the Bats.

The Bats out-hit the Mud Hens 17-12 over the course of the doubleheader and out-hit in game two, 11-5.

Tomorrow at Fifth Third Bank field, the Louisville Bats and Toledo Mud Hens finish their four game series at 4:05 pm before the All-Star break. Projected to pitch for the Bats is lefty Tony Cingrani (0-0,0.00) and for the Mud Hens righty Tim Melville (3-7, 4.96).
