Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release

Peoria, IL - In a rubber match from O'Brien Field on Monday, the Peoria Chiefs (10-14, 45-48) beat the Bowling Green Hot Rods (14-10, 52-42) 8-3. Jake Hager drove in two runs and Josh Sale added an RBI as the Hot Rods never held a lead in the loss. Despite the defeat, the Hot Rods still finish the six-game road trip winners of four of six and have won seven of ten games overall.

Already down 4-0, the Hot Rods did not get on the scoreboard until the top of the sixth inning, using a two-out rally to do so. Drew Vettleson singled up the middle and was advanced to second on a balk by former Major League pitcher Justin Berg. The next batter was Josh Sale, who lined a 3-0 pitch into centerfield to plate Vettleson for the Hot Rods first run.

Hager's two RBI's came in the top of the ninth inning as the Hot Rods were attempting to stage a late rally. The shortstop and 2011 first rounder has now driven in 45 runs on the season, which places him in second place on the Hot Rods. In the three-game series in Peoria, Hager drove in five runs.

The Chiefs dealt the Hot Rods the big blow in the bottom of the fifth inning on Monday, scoring three times off of Hot Rods starter Trevor Shull. Bowling Green's offense managed nine hits that were spread out among nine different players. Cameron Seitzer did have one of those hits to finish the road trip 12-22 and the series with the Chiefs 8-14. The rubber match loss is the first non-extra inning loss for the Hot Rods since an 8-3 loss on July 5 in Fort Wayne.

With the six-game road trip behind them, the Hot Rods return home to Bowling Green Ballpark to open a six-game homestand on Wednesday at 7:05 PM. In the first of a three-game series with the Kane County Cougars, Class A Affiliates of the Kansas City Royals, the Hot Rods will give the start to RHP Jake Floethe (8-1, 3.76). Tune in to the game on the flagship station for the Hot Rods Radio Network, WBGN-AM 1340 "The Ticket" and online at 1340wbgn.com. The Forever Communications Pregame Show with Hank Fuerst begins at 6:45 PM.

Denny McLain, the last Major League pitcher to win 30 games, will be in attendance at Bowling Green Ballpark on Wednesday night, signing free autographs. Call (270)-901-2121 or visit BGHotRods.com for ticket information.
