Dragons On The Field
The Dragons' bats have come to life since the beginning of June, with the team hitting .272 in their last 50 games. Second baseman Ryan Wright snapped his team-high 17-game hitting streak during the last road trip, but cemented his place in Dragons history. Wright's streak was the third longest hitting streak in team history, trailing Cody Straight's 19 in 2005 and Carlos Mendez's franchise-record 20 in 2009. In the second half of the season, Wright is batting .353 to push his overall batting average over .300. He's eighth in the Midwest League in batting, tied for third in hits, and tied for fourth in doubles.
Over the last nine games, the bullpen has been strong for the Dragons, surrendering 10 earned runs in 40.1 innings pitched (2.23 earned run average). Dan Jensen hasn't allowed a hit over his last six innings of work. The Centerville native has walked two and struck out five during that span. Jensen has become the first Montgomery County native to play for the Dragons. Mike Dennhardt has also had success over his last several appearances. In his last four appearances totaling nine innings pitched, Dennhardt hasn't allowed a run. He's 1-0 during that time, and has lowered his ERA to 2.34 in his first professional season.
Former major leaguer Delino DeShields is in his second season as manager for Dayton in 2012. He enters his fourth season in the Reds organization, having served as the manager of the Billings Mustangs in 2010 and as the hitting coach in Billings in 2009. Cincinnati Reds Hall of Famer Tom Browning joins the staff as the pitching coach, and Alex Pelaez is in his second year as the team's hitting coach.
