West Michigan Whitecaps News Release

COMSTOCK PARK, MI - Not to be outdone by Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins, who threw out a first pitch on July 7, another NFL star will visit Fifth Third Ballpark and try out his pitching arm. Oakland Raiders offensive tackle Jared Veldheer is scheduled to throw out a first pitch before the Whitecaps vs. Peoria Chiefs game this Thursday, July 19, at 7 p.m.

Veldheer, a 2005 Forest Hills Northern graduate and former All-American at Division II Hillsdale College, will be entering his third season with the Oakland Raiders this fall after being drafted in the third round in 2010. He secured the starting left tackle job as a rookie and has started 26 straight games at that position.

The Whitecaps are currently 12-11 in the second half of the season and 48-45 overall. They return home on Wednesday for a six-game homestand vs. Peoria and Burlington. Game times are 7 p.m. each day except Sunday, which is a 1 p.m. start. Wednesday's game is Ronald McDonald House night, with post-game fireworks; Thursday is an Altogas Thrifty Thursday with food and beverage specials and Sandy Pines Campground Youth Jersey giveaway; and Friday is Field of Dreams Night presented by Classic Rock 97 WLAV and Tiger Friday with Jon Warden (Jon Warden Living Baseball Cards for the first 1000 fans presented by BCF Wealth Strategies).

Saturday, July 21 is Olympics Night, baseballs for the first 1,000 fans presented by ITC, and post-game fireworks; Sunday is a Helen DeVos Children's Hospital Family Day with an appearance by Clifford the Big Red Dog; and Monday is Green Baseball Hat giveaway to the first 2,000 fans presented by DTE Energy.

Group and individual tickets are available for all remaining home games and can be purchased by calling the Whitecaps front office at 616-784-4131 or visiting www.whitecapsbaseball.com.
