Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Jacksonville starter Jorge Guzman carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning, but the Jumbo Shrimp were nipped 2-1 on Tuesday by the Mobile BayBears at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.
Mobile (20-30) catcher Jack Kruger broke up Guzman's (1-6) no-hit bid with a leadoff single. Bo Way followed with a triple for the game's first run. After Jacksonville (19-32) went to the bullpen, Jhoan Urena singled in Way to make it 2-0.
Anfernee Seymour singled to begin the bottom of the eighth. After a strikeout, an error put runners on the corners. Justin Twine followed with a sacrifice fly to halve the Mobile lead at 2-1. The Jumbo Shrimp went on to load the bases in the frame, but BayBears reliever Ryan Clark wriggled out of the jam and pitched a scoreless ninth for his fifth save.
Guzman surrendered two runs on two hits in six-plus innings. He did not strike out a batter and walked three.
BayBears starter Jeremy Beasley (2-3) earned the win with six shutout innings.
Tuesday's winning raffle number of 1988242003 won a prize of $158.
