Trenton Devils News Release

TRENTON, NJ (January 24, 2008) - Trenton Devils defenseman Ryan Gunderson recorded two assists and was one of four American Conference players who had multi-point nights last evening at the 2008 Chase Chevrolet ECHL All-Star Game in Stockton, California. His two points would not be enough, however, as the National Conference skated to a 10-7 win.

Gunderson, 22, was the first Trenton skater to start at an All-Star Game since Scott Bertoli captained the 2005-06 American Conference squad. The native of Bensalem, PA took two shots in addition to his two assists, finishing the night with a -2 rating.

The Devil assisted on the lone American goal in the second period, setting up the Florida Everblades' Mathieu Melanson with 45 seconds left in the frame. Cincinnati Cyclone David Desharnais also helped the tally, which snapped a string of six unanswered National Conference goals to make the score 7-3.

Leading all rookie defensemen in scoring this season with 28 points (3g, 25a), Gunderson gained his second assist by creating a play with Trenton rival-turned-ally Brett Hemingway of the Reading Royals. The two skaters fed the puck to Jordan Owens of the Charlotte Checkers, who potted the puck in the back of the net to cut the deficit to 8-4.

This year is Gunderson's first full professional season. The 5-11, 178-pounder came to the Devils after playing collegiately at the University of Vermont, where he set a school record in games played (148) and was among the team leaders in assists each of his four years.

The local product skated with Holy Ghost Prep and owns the team's records in single season and career points. He also spent a year with the Mercer Chiefs of the AYHL.

Hosted by the Stockton Thunder and the City of Stockton at Stockton Arena, the 2008 Chase Chevrolet ECHL All-Star Game, presented by Jackson Rancheria and Bud Light, was played on Jan. 23 with the 11th edition of the Chase Chevrolet ECHL All-Star Game Skills Competition held on Jan. 22.

The starting lineups were determined in voting by American Conference coaches, team captains, media directors, broadcasters and media members. Coaches also submitted the top prospects from within their conference to determine the final roster with each of the 16 teams having a representative. Gunderson was one of those prospects.

The Trenton Devils continue their longest homestand of the season at Sovereign Bank Arena when they take on the Elmira Jackals on tomorrow, January 25 at 7:30pm. Full and partial ticket plans for the 2007-08 season are available by calling (609) 599-9500.
