Johnstown Chiefs News Release
Stockton, CA - Representing the Johnstown Chiefs on the American Conference team, center Ryan Garlock earned an assist on the final goal of the 2008 ECHL All-Star Game.
The American Conference trailed the National 7-3 heading into the final period at Stockton Arena, and was able to score four times to narrow the gap. But the game's most valuable player, Ash Goldie of Victoria, scored the game winner 22 seconds into the third, and the National Conference scored twice more to set the 10-7 final.
With 3:46 left in the game, Garlock teamed up with Yannick Tifu to set up Reading's Brett Hemingway for his only goal of the game. Hemingway led the American Conference with three points (1G, 2A).
In Tuesday's ECHL All-Star Skills Competition, Garlock competed in the CCM Vector Fastest Skater competition, and placed third with a time of 14.47 seconds.
The 10 goals is the most scored by a team since the Canada All-Stars set the record with 11 goals on Jan. 20, 1998 at Lafayette, La. and it ties the record for second-most goals set by the North All-Stars on Jan. 23, 1996 at Tallahassee, Fla.
The 17 goals by both teams is the most scored since 1998 when the teams combined for 18 goals and ties the record for second-most goals set by the teams in 1996. The two teams combined for four goals in the third period, tying the record for third-most goals by both teams in a period.
The Chiefs' next home game is on January 26 against Dayton for the Toyota paper airplane toss night. If you can throw a paper plane through the sunroof of a Toyota parked at center ice, you win the car! If you miss that one, you can catch the Chiefs when they host Reading on January 27 for the first-ever Chiefs' "Pink in the Rink" night. Join the fight against breast cancer as $1 from each ticket sold will go to breast cancer research. There will also be a live auction for the Chiefs' pink game-worn jerseys.
