Johnstown Chiefs News Release
Johnstown, PA - The Johnstown Chiefs are calling all guitar heroes to the War Memorial! The team announced today that it will partner with Johnstown's Check Point Internet and Gaming Café to host their first-ever Guitar Hero III tournament.
Released in the fall of 2007, Guitar Hero III was one of the most popular video games of the year, selling 2.72 million copies. So what better way is there to show your skills than in front of thousands of screaming fans at a Chiefs game?
Director of Technology for Check Point, Josh Miller said of the tournament: "We're very excited to use this opportunity to attract people to both venues. Just like them, we are a safe, drug-free, smoke-free, and family environment, so working with the Chiefs makes sense on many levels."
The tournament will span two weekends, February 29 & March 1, and March 7 & 8, with the first two rounds taking place at the Check Point Internet and Gaming Café. There will be three divisions to accommodate beginners, pros, and rock stars! Those who advance from the first two rounds will play the next Friday, March 7 throughout the Chiefs game to determine the finalists. The games on March 7 will be held in the warehouse, which will be turned into a game lounge, located behind the Party Pit.
The finalists, then, get to come back on March 8 and will play during the intermissions of the Chiefs game to determine the champions. Those games will be played on a projection screen in the Party Pit, and will be hooked up to a DJ-quality sound system so the whole arena will get to see and hear you rock! Prizes will be awarded to the champions in each division. After tournament play on both nights at the War Memorial, the game will be open for all fans to play.
The entry fee for the tournament is only $12 which includes the tournament entry charge, and a Chiefs ticket for March 7 and 8. Participants can sign up in person at the War Memorial or Check Point, or by calling the Chiefs at 814-539-1799 and asking for Eric. You can also call Check Point at 814-619-3082 to sign up.
The Chiefs' next home game is on January 26 against Dayton for the Toyota paper airplane toss night. If you can throw a paper plane through the sunroof of a Toyota parked at center ice, you win the car! If you miss that one, you can catch the Chiefs when they host Reading on January 27 for the first-ever Chiefs' "Pink in the Rink" night. Join the fight against breast cancer as $1 from each ticket sold will go to breast cancer research. There will also be a live auction for the Chiefs' pink game-worn jerseys. Great seats are still available at the UPMC Health Plan Ice Rink, call 536-5156 or go to www.johnstownchiefs.com to get yours today!!
