San Diego Gulls News Release
SAN DIEGO - The San Diego Gulls extended their home win streak to five games with a 3-2 overtime victory vs. the San Antonio Rampage.
Nick Ritchie opened scoring with his seventh goal of the season, a power play goal at 8:42 of the first period. Joseph Cramarossa and Antoine Laganiere assisted on the tally. Ritchie ranks tied for second in goals among league leaders and leads the league in power play goals.
San Diego had a number of opportunities early in the second period, finally capitalizing when defenseman Shea Theodore netted his first of the season, a slap shot in transition, giving the Gulls a 2-0 lead. Forwards Harry Zolnierczyk and Chris Mueller each contributed to Theodore's second period goal.
San Antonio got within one on a goal by Michael Schumacher, his first of the season, at 1:44 of the final frame and tied the game just four minutes and 19 seconds later with their second goal of the game by left wing Andreas Martinsen.
Tied at two, San Diego and San Antonio battled through the end of regulation and entered overtime neck-and-neck. Nick Ritchie, who leads the team in goals and points, notched the overtime winner, his eighth of the season, with 1:16 remaining of the extra frame.
The Gulls now hit the road for a two-game trip, the first Thursday night in Ontario before heading up the coast to face San Jose on Saturday for the third time this season. Saturday's 1 p.m. contest is the first of an AHL/NHL double header. Anaheim and San Jose, the Gulls and Barracuda's NHL affiliates, match up at 7:30 p.m.
