Syracuse Crunch News Release

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Syracuse Crunch are holding a Movember Mustache Challenge throughout the month of November to raise funds for prostate cancer research at Upstate University Hopsital and spread awareness of the disease, which affects one in seven men.

Throughout the month of November, also known as Movember, Syracuse Crunch players and front office staff members will grow mustaches as part of this fundraising initiative and best-mustache competition. The plyers and staff are divided into two teams, lead by Anthony DeAngelo for The Sons of Movember and Adam Erne for The Cookie Dusters. The team captains drafted their best mustache-growing team and will compete against each other for fan votes. Fans are encouraged to vote for the team with the best mustaches by donating money to the team's GoFundMe page.

Fans may visit the Crunch website or click here to view photos of the teams and place their votes through monetary donations. Photos will be updated throughout the month.

Each team will compete to raise the most funds between now and Nov. 26. All donations will benefit the Prostate Cancer Care and Research Fund at Upstate. The team that collects the most donations by midnight on Nov. 26 will be declared the winner. Representatives from the Upstate Prostate Cancer Team will be on hand at the Crunch game on Nov. 27 against the Toronto Marlies when the winning team will be announced and a check is presented.

Proper management of prostate cancer requires more than the ability to perform an operation. It involves making informed judgments about a complex disease process-from diagnosis to performing active treatment in those who may be considered high-risk. Most importantly, it also includes avoiding unnecessary treatment.

Upstate's Prostate Cancer Team understands this-and so much more. They understand that having highly trained specialists utilizing the latest technology provides patients with the most up-to-date treatment options. They understand the importance of collaboration. That's why they work with the nation's foremost public research institutions that include close partnerships with the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the National Cancer Institute (NCI). And it's why this team consists of professionals from a host of specialties-including urology, radiation oncology, medical oncology, pathology, surgery, radiology, social work, nursing and psychology-who coordinate care so each patient receives the care that's right for him, delivered by experts in each applied field. Among Upstate's Prostate experts are a group of outstanding, comprehensive, world class researchers studying molecular mechanisms and new treatments for prostate cancer.

Single game and season tickets are on sale now and can be purchased either in person at the Crunch Box Office located in the War Memorial on 800 South State Street in Syracuse or by calling the office at 315-473-4444.
