Guite lifts Bruins into playoffs

The Providence Bruins made it official on Friday night at the Dunkin' Donuts Center Providence, defeating the Worcester IceCats, 3-1 and clinching the fourth and final playoff berth in the Atlantic Division. The Black and Gold have now reached the post-season for the 11th time in the 13-year history of the franchise. The Bruins are 40-28-3-7 (90 points) on the season.

Bruin center Ben Guite had a goal and an assist, including the game-winner one minute into the third period. The goal was Guite's ninth of the season, and fourth game-winner.

Fellow center Patrice Bergeron added his 21st goal of the season on a second period power play, while left wing David Gove notched his 12th of the year on a third period tally. Left wing Martin Samuelsson added two assists.

Providence goaltender Hannu Toivonen stopped 24 of the 25 shots he faced for the win. Toivonen is 29-17-3 on the season. The 20-year-old native of Kalvola, Finland is tied for fifth in the AHL with his 2.02 GAA and .932 save percentage.

The Bruins and IceCats wrap up their all-time series on Saturday night in Worcester, with game coverage on WDDZ AM-550 and www.providencebruins.com. The game will be the 114th and final meeting between the Route 146 rivals, as the IceCats relocate to Peoria, Illinois for the 2005-06 season. The Bruins are 47-50-16 in the all-time series.

The Bruins close out the regular season when they host the Portland Pirates on Sunday, April 17 at 4:05 p.m. Prior to the start of the game, the Bruins will hold their annual Team Awards Ceremony.

Playoff tickets for Games 3 and 4 of the Atlantic Division Semifinals are on sale now. Game 3 will be played on Monday, April 25 at 7:05 p.m., and Game 4 will be played on Wednesday, April 27 at 7:05 p.m. Season ticketholders should used tickets marked "Home Games 1 and 2".
