Grrrowl drop 6-5 overtime decision to Pee Dee at the BI-LO Center

GREENVILLE, SC – The Greenville Grrrowl were 2:32 away from winning their 16th game of the season when Preston Mizzi tied the game at 5-5, and B.J. Adams won it overtime as Pee Dee beat Greenville 6-5 in front of 4,441 at the BI-LO Center Friday night.

The Grrrowl spotted Pee Dee a 1-0 lead when Allan Sirois opened the scoring at 7:04 of the first period. Then, Greenville scored 4 goals on 9 shots in the first period, and led 4-2 after 20 minutes. MIKKO SIVONEN scored two of those goals, while JONATHAN ROY and MARTIN MASA scored the others. Greg Schmidt scored the only goal in the second period at 16:04 at the Pride trailed 4-3. Kyle Kidney tied the game at 4-4 at 10:22 of the third period, before ROY scored his second of the night and 16th of the season at 16:13 of period 3, and the Grrrowl led 5-4. Preston Mizzi tied the game at 5-5 with 2:32 left in the third period, and B.J. Adams scored the winner at 3:20 of overtime giving Pee Dee the 6-5 OT victory. SIVONEN and ROY both finished with 2 goals and 1 assist apiece, while MIKE HURLEY and JUDD MEDAK recorded two assists, each, in a losing effort. The Grrrowl scored three powerplay goals in the first period. The Pride outshot the Grrrowl 41-30.

The Grrrowl and Pride meet, again, tomorrow at the Florence City-County Civic Center at 7:30 PM (Newsradio 1330 & 950, WORD). Greenville returns home to host the Florida Everblades next Friday, December 27th (7:05 PM) and Saturday, December 28th (7:05 PM).
