Grrrowl Drop 6-3 Decision to Columbia Inferno

December 7, 2002 - ECHL (ECHL)
Greenville Grrrowl News Release

GREENVILLE, S.C. – When Shawn Wansborough gave Columbia a 1-0 lead at 4:38 of the first period, perhaps the Grrrowl had an indication of what kind of night it would be. The Inferno dumped the puck into the Greenville zone when it hit a kink in the boards and came out in front of the net. With goaltender MICHAEL GARNETT out to play the puck, Wansborough found a gift on his stick with a wide open net and the Inferno opened a 1-0 lead.

MARTIN MASA tied the game at 1-1 just :28 seconds after Wansborough's goal, and MIKKO SIVONEN gave Greenville a 2-1 with his team-leading 10th goal of the season at 9:34 of the first period. Sean Owens and Matt Ulwelling scored second period goals to give the Inferno a 3-2 lead after forty minutes. Barrie Moore and Justin Morrison made it 5-2 in the third period, before JONATHAN ROY pulled Greenville back within two with 7:36 left in the third period. Rejean Stringer capped the scoring with an empty net goal as Columbia posted the 6-3 victory. The Grrrowl allowed a season-high 46 shots in front of 4,935 at the BI-LO Center.

The Grrrowl travel to Augusta tomorrow (Sunday) afternoon to face the Southeast Division-rival Augusta Lynx at 4:05 PM (joined in progress after Carolina Panthers Football, WORD). The next home game is scheduled for next Saturday, December 14th against the Florida Everblades (7:05 PM, Teddy Bear toss to benefit Toys for Tots).

Remember, hockey tickets make great stocking stuffers during the holiday season! Grrrowl tickets are on sale at the BI-LO Center Box Office and all TicketMaster outlets. For more information call (864) 467-GRRR or log onto www.grrrowl.com.
