
Florida Upends South Carolina 7-5

ESTERO, FL - The Florida Everblades (10-6-6) upended the South Carolina Stingrays (15-8-1) 7-5 in front of a crowd of 6,720 at TECO Arena on Saturday night. Everblades rookie Marty Johnston chipped in two goals and two assists and defenseman Brian Goudie registered three assists in the win.
The Stingrays struck first on a goal off the stick of forward Mike Jickling at the 6:22 mark of the first period on a rebound. The Everblades then tied the game on the power play after defenseman Duane Harmer notched his fifth goal of the season on a shot from the point at the 11:17 mark of the period. South Carolina forward Adam Calder then gave the Stingrays a 2-1 lead in the second period after he fired a shot past Florida netminder Cam McCormick. Joe Blaznek then took a neutral zone feed from defenseman Brian Goudie and slipped it under Stingrays goaltender Dean Weasler to tie the game at 2-2. South Carolina then took a 3-2 lead on a one time shot from forward Joel Irving. Florida forward Laurent Meunier then stepped around a South Carolina defender and shot a backhand into the net to tie the game at three apiece.
In the third period, Everblades forward George Awada flipped a shot over the glove of the South Carolina goaltender to give the Everblades a 4-3 lead. The Stingrays came back and made it 4-4 on a tip in off the stick of forward Mike Jickling at the 8:36 mark of the period. The Everblades then took the lead for good after Marty Johnston notched two goals in a :46 second span to give Florida a 6-4 lead. South Carolina then scored to make it 6-5 on a point shot on the power play off the stick of defenseman Matt Derosiers. Florida then added a goal from forward Kevin Brown at the 16:20 mark of the period to seal the 7-5 win.
Florida goaltender Cam McCormick (2-1-1) stopped 32 of 37 shots he faced while South Carolina netminder Dean Weasler (1-3-0) stopped 34 of 41 shots. The Everblades were 1 for 4 on the power play while the Stingrays were 2 for 6.
Florida takes on the Columbia Inferno next Friday night in Columbia at 7:05 PM.
