Gateway Grizzlies News Release
Avon, Ohio - RHP Will Landsheft (1-2) put together a solid performance for the Grizzlies, allowing just two runs and five hits in seven innings on Wednesday night at All Pro Freight Stadium. Gateway's offense was unable to back him up, as the Grizzlies collected only three hits in a 2-0 loss to the Lake Erie Crushers.
Lake Erie used six pitchers to combine for a three-hit shoutout.
In the bottom half of the first, Landsheft allowed a one-out walk to Parks Jordan. Crushers third baseman Juan Avila would later drive Jordan in with an RBI single to make it 1-0.
After a couple of scoreless frames, Landsheft then allowed a solo homer to Dan Aldrich in the fourth to put the Crushers (10-5) ahead 2-0.
Lake Erie right-hander Jordan Kraus (1-0) threw five scoreless innings in his 2016 debut while not allowing a single hit. It was only until RHP Keegan Ghidotti replaced Kraus in the sixth that the Grizzlies (9-9) would collect a bunt single from Cody Livesay. After that, Lake Erie manager Chris Mongiardo began to bring in a carousel of relievers.
In the seventh, the Grizzlies got a leadoff double from Ben Waldrip to start the inning which was followed by a deep fly out from Blake Brown to advance Waldrip to third. RHP Chandler Jagodzinski was replaced by RHP Ryan Richardson, who would retire the next two batters as Gateway stranded a runner in scoring position.
With RHP Juan Caballero on the mound in the ninth, the Grizzlies put the tying runs on first and second with two outs. He was replaced by RHP Mike Devine, who struck out Brandon Thomas to end the game and secure Lake Erie's win.
The Grizzlies and Crushers play the finale of their three-game series on Thursday night. First pitch is at 6:05 p.m. Gateway sends LHP Sasha Kuebel to the mound as Lake Erie throws RHP Steve Hagen.
The game can be heard on the Grizzlies Radio Network, which airs Thursday on 1400 AM KJFF and www.GatewayGrizzlies.com/Radio. Sam Levitt will broadcast the game.
