Grizzlies Play Better But Still Fall To San Antonio, 3-2

San Antonio, Texas * The Utah Grizzlies looked to gain their first victory of the season in their second straight game against the San Antonio Rampage in what was their home opener. The Grizzlies came back and erased one deficit but eventually fell 3-2 in front of 6,516 in the SBC Center.

San Antonio held a 1-0 lead after a first period goal by Denis Shvidki but in the second period the Grizzlies would get the period's first 11 shots with Barrett Heisten and Jeff Bateman each scoring their first goal of the season giving Utah a 2-1 lead.

Tim Verbeek would get whistled for a hooking call after the Grizzlies gained the lead and San Antonio would capitalize with a power play goal by Michel Periard tying the game at two goals apiece after two period.

The Rampage would regain the lead for good early in the third when Jaroslav Bednar scored his second of the season against the Grizzlies pushing the Rampage ahead 3-2 which is where the game would finish.

Utah ended up outshooting San Antonio 29-28 but went 0 for 6 on the power play and consequently seeing their record fall to 0-2.

The Grizzlies begin a four-game home stand with Taco Bell night at the 'E' Center on Saturday, October 18 when they host the Chicago Wolves. The first 2,000 fans receive Grizzlies' Magnetic Schedules courtesy of Taco Bell.
