Augusta Lynx News Release

For the second consecutive night, the Augusta Lynx jumped out to an early lead only to be overcome by the Gwinnett Gladiators in pre-season play, this time by a 6-3 count in front of approximately 1,500 fans at the Augusta Richmond County Civic Center Saturday night.

Louis Goulet's power play goal started the scoring for the Lynx, with new arrival Shawn Weiman notching his first point with the club, and Matt Dzieduszycki chipping in the other helper at 17:33 of the first period. Todd Bennett opened up a 2-0 lead for Augusta at 1:59 of the second period with an unassisted tally that banked in off a Gwinnett defender and past goaltender Adam Munro.

The Gladiators would storm back to take a 3-2 lead on goals by Kris Goodjohn, Mike Vigilante, and Chris Burno before Todd Nowicki scored at 19:22 to forge a 3-3 tie at the end of the second period. Weiman and Jonathan Gagnon picked up the assists on the goal for the Lynx.

Period number three belonged to the Gladiators, as Goodjohn would notch his second of the night and eventual game winner at 5:15, followed by a Steve Slonina tally and Burno's second goal of the night to cap the scoring at 15:07 of the third period. Lynx goaltender Jason Saal stopped 32 shots in the loss, while Munro worked two periods, making 16 saves, and backup Ravi Tanna earned the win with five stops in the third period.

Augusta will now prepare for final cuts later this week as training camp draws to a close. The team opens the regular season on Friday, October 17th against the Florida Everblades, and then hosts them again on Saturday night as well. Game time is slated for 7:35 pm both nights.
