Utah Grizzlies News Release
The Utah Grizzlies returned home this past week after spending the better part of a month on the road for a pair of games versus the Cleveland Barons. In Friday's homecoming, the Grizzlies never trailed leading three separate times by one goal eventually capturing a 3-2 win. Utah scored two goals in the second period behind Martin Sonnenberg's re-directed shot of a Matthew Spiller blast and Peter White's power play goal late in the frame. The Grizzlies needed a late third period goal on the power play by Aaron Gavey, his first with the Grizzles to end their franchise-record eight-game losing streak. On Saturday, the Barons came out firing on all cylinders taking a 4-0 lead midway through the second period. Gavey struck again for Utah on the power play giving him goals in consecutive games but it was the only marker of the night for Utah. Fredrik Sjostrom had three helpers in the two game series and White had a goal and an assist.

GAVEY CATCHING STRIDE:
~Aaron Gavey has been hot lately notching points in each of his last three games (2-1 â3). In Friday's 3-2 victory over Cleveland, Gavey scored the game winning goal late in the third period and in Saturday's loss he notched the team's only goal. In his first 17 games with Utah, the veteran recorded just two assists.
NO PLACE LIKE HOME FOR SJOSTROM:
~Home ice has been quite advantageous for Fredrik Sjostrom who has five goals and nine assists in 20 home games. The first year Grizzly has notched at least one point in nine of his last 10 home games and has a total of 12 points (5-7 â12) and is a +5 over that stretch. Sjostrom has a goal and three assists in his last three home games. Sjostrom recorded just two assists in his first 10 games at the âE' Center.
HOMESTAND CONTINUES WITH THREE GAMES THIS WEEK:
~The Grizzlies will tackle two of the powers in the Western Conference this week in the âE' Center when they host Chicago on Wednesday night and Manitoba twice this weekend. Utah split a pair of games with the Wolves earlier this year at the âE' Center and split a pair of games in Winnipeg against the Moose in what was the final two game in the historic Winnipeg Arena.
Upcoming Schedule:
Jan. 26 â Utah vs. Chicago Grizzlies are 1-1 at the âE' Center this year vs. Wolves
Jan. 28 â Utah vs. Manitoba Utah went 1-1 earlier this year in Manitoba
Jan. 29 â Utah vs. Manitoba The Moose are led by former Grizzly Wade Flaherty
