West Valley City, Utah - Utah Grizzlies Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Kevin Colley announced today that Nick Tuzzolino has been named the team's captain.

In addition, Derick Martin and Cody Lampl have been named alternate captains.

Tuzzolino, 25, enters his second year in Utah after leading Grizzlies defensemen in scoring and power-play points last year, while also earning a 20-game, nearly two month AHL call-up to Portland. He is a veteran of 281 professional games, two seasons of which came with Alaska of the ECHL. He was a member of the Aces 2009 team that advanced to game seven of the Kelly Cup Finals.

"Nick was a strong leader for us last season," said Colley. "He knows what it takes to win and get to the next level; and he's willing to put in the time and work to accomplish both of those."

Martin, who is a veteran of 432 games professional games and 69 playoff contests, has been on a team that has won at least one ECHL playoff series in four of the last five years. He went to the conference finals last season with Victoria and advanced with Alaska as a teammate of Tuzzolino in 2009 to game seven of the Kelly Cup Finals.

Lampl spent the previous two seasons in Idaho where he advanced to the Kelly Cup Finals with the Steelheads in 2010. He played four years of college hockey at Colorado College.

Utah opens the season Friday by hosting the Idaho Steelheads at Maverik Center at 7:05 p.m.
