Reading Royals News Release

Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League and the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League, today announced that forward Yannick Riendeau ["ree EN doe"] has been assigned by the Boston Bruins from the Providence Bruins of the AHL to Reading. In separate transactions previously completed, the Royals (i) added defenseman Marvin Degon, who was released his professional tryout agreement with Providence, to the playoff roster; and (ii) released defenseman Channing Boe from his ECHL contract with the team.

Riendeau (5'10/186) (23), a third year pro from Boucherville, Quebec, played one game with Providence this season without registering any points or penalty minutes. Last year, Riendeau was the fifth leading scorer for the Royals, recording eighteen goals and twenty-five assists (forty-three points) and twenty-four penalty minutes in fifty-four regular season games. He also played six games with the P-Bruins last year without registering any points or penalty minutes. With the Royals last year, Riendeau saved his best for last, scoring seven goals over the team's final ten games of the regular season-a hot streak that stretch into the post-season where he rang off a seven game point streak and tied for the team lead in scoring with eight points (5g-3a) in the Royals' eight playoff games. This marks the third consecutive season that Riendeau has played in Reading. In 2009-10, he scored three goals and assisted on two others in six regular season games with Reading. But true to form that season, Riendeau was at his best in the playoffs, registering five points (3g-2a) in five post-season contests for the Royals before sustaining a season ending injury while blocking a shot in Game Five of the first round American Conference Quarter-Finals series against the Kalamazoo Wings. Prior to turning pro, Riendeau had an explosive final season of major junior with the Drummondville Voltigeurs of the QMJHL, as he led the league in regular season (58g-68a126pts in 64 games) and playoff (29g-23a52pts in 19 games) scoring. The Voltigeurs not only won the QMJHL regular season, but also won the President's Cup for the playoff championship with Riendeau taking home the Guy Lafleur Trophy as the playoff MVP. Degon played two games with the P-Bruins this season with registering any points or penalty minutes prior to being released from his PTO.

The Royals will face the Cincinnati Cyclones in the team's 2011-12 home opener on Saturday, October 22, 2011, at 7:05 pm at the Sovereign Center in Reading, Pennsylvania. The team kicks off the season on the road against the South Carolina Stingrays in North Charleston, South Carolina, on Friday, October 14 (7:05 pm). That game, as with all Royals' road games this year, will be televised live courtesy of Royals TV presented by Boscov's Travel and Royal Caribbean Cruise lines in Berks County, Pennsylvania, on BCTV.
