Edmonton Assigns Center Ryan Martindale to Thunder

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder, proud ECHL affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers and San Jose Sharks of the National Hockey League, announced the Oilers have assigned center Ryan Martindale to the Thunder from the Oklahoma City Barons of the American Hockey League.

Martindale, who turns 20 on Oct. 27, was selected by Edmonton in the third round (61st overall) of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft and suited up in two preseason games for the Oilers this year.

The 6-foot-3 and 207 pound forward previously skated in 243 career junior games in the Ontario Hockey League with the Ottawa 67's, scored 207 points (85g-122a), totaled 97 penalty minutes and a +18 rating. In 27 career postseason games, he compiled 17 points (9g-8a) and 17 penalty minutes.

Last season, he enjoyed a career-high 83 points (34g-49a) and +38 rating in 65 games for Ottawa and ranked second on the club with 34 goals.

Martindale was signed by the Oilers to a three-year entry level contract on October 8.

Opening Night is Friday, Oct. 14, when the Thunder opens the 2011-12 regular season at home against the Colorado Eagles, starting at 7:30 p.m. at Stockton Arena. The game will be a historic ECHL event to welcome in the Eagles, who will play in their inaugural game after spending the previous eight seasons in the Central Hockey League.
