Over the past week, the Grizzlies continued to stay unbeaten in regulation for now nine-straight games, continued their offensive tear and captain Ryan Kinasewich continued his dominance of the ECHL. Utah's last loss in regulation came January 7 to Reading.
Another Winning Month
The Grizzlies went 4-2-3-4 in January for their third winning month out of four during the 2008-2009 season. Utah's only losing month thus far was November as they were without leading scorer Ryan Kinasewich for eight games and fourth-leading scorer Evan Kotsopoulos for nine contests while also experiencing several call-ups.
Just Another Month At The Office
Captain Ryan Kinasewich had three more points this past week in Phoenix as the Grizzlies played just one game. Kinasewich finished the month with 11 goals and 18 assists to lead the league in scoring with 29 points. The fourth-year Utah forward enters the month of February with a career-high nine-game scoring streak after notching seven multi-point games and five games of three points or more in January.
Ryan's Linemates Are Hot Too
Rob Hennigar has four goals and 13 assists for 17 points in his last nine games and Tim Verbeek has eight goals and one assist in his last nine games.
February
February has been Utah's best month since they joined the ECHL in 2005 going 21-13-5. Utah went 9-3-1 last year in February.
In Case You Missed It
The Grizzlies added a goaltender and some support for Mike Mole Friday when Dan Turple was assigned by the NHL's Atlanta Thrashers. The six-foot-five Turple started for the Grizzlies and made 18-straight saves in the first period to open the game. In addition, the team's leading scorer in December (five goals, nine assists) and fourth-leading scorer overall (11 goals, 13 assists) James Sixsmith was returned to the team by the Bridgeport Sound Tigers Friday in time for the team's contest in Phoenix.
The Power-Play
The Utah power-play is 6-18 (33-percent) over their last four games.
Home Stand Starting
The Grizzlies five-game home stand opening Wednesday ties their longest of the year. In addition to Phoenix, Utah hosts Bakersfield February 10 and 11.
