Elmira Jackals News Release
Elmira, NY- The Elmira Jackals announced today that the line up has toughened with the addition of forward Mike Sgroi who was acquired in trade, for future considerations, with Utah. Sgroi is expected to join the line up for Friday nights 7:35 p.m. tilt with the Johnstown Chiefs.
The native of Toronto, Ontario has played in one game for Utah and 12 games this season for Johnstown in which he has scored three goals and added 22 minutes in penalties. The 6'5'' 230 pounder played in three games for the Syracuse Crunch of the AHL this season.
Sgroi has spent the past eight seasons in professional hockey with stops in the ECHL, UHL and AHL. Over the course of 420 games the left handed forward has amassed 1,535 penalty minutes and 143 points.
"Mike has shown the ability to be a finisher, while being a physical presence and now has the opportunity to return to Elmira and fit in with our team." Said Jackals Head Coach Steve Martinson
Mike quickly became a fan favorite in Elmira after gathering three points and racking up 26 penalty minutes in four games in the 2006-2007 UHL season. Mike then went on to do an outstanding job for the Jackals AHL affiliate, the Binghamton Senators. In 32 games for the B-Sens in 06-07, he racked up 125 penalty minutes and five points.
