BOMBERS NOTES

ON THE DOCKET: This week the Bombers play four games against three different division foes: Wednesday against Reading, Friday at Wheeling, and Saturday and Sunday versus the first place Johnstown Chiefs. The Bombers are 4-2-0 against the Royals thus far and 4-2-0-2 against Wheeling, but just 2-3-0 when playing the Chiefs.

ABOUT TUESDAY: The Elmira Jackals scored three special teams goals en route to a 4-2 win over the Bombers on Tuesday night. Netting a power play, short handed and penalty shot goal (all in the first period), the Jackals jumped the Bombers into fourth place in the division standings. Scoring for the Bombers were Dominic D'Amour, from Dan Riedel and Nino Musitelli; and Justin Bowers, assisted by Kelly Perrault and Brock Wilson. Dayton outshot Elmira 42-16 on the night, however, goalie Tyler Plante took the loss after a 12 of 16 performance.

FRIDAY RECAP: A two-goal third period was not enough for the Bombers to overtake the Cincinnati Cyclones, eventually falling 3-2 to the in-state rivals. Scoring for the Bombers were Tomas Zaborsky and Dan Riedel, who netted his team-leading 11th power play goal of the year. In net for the Bombers was Paul Drew, who went 14 of 17 on the night.

COMEBACK EFFORT FALLS SHORT: Despite coming back from a three-goal deficit against the Cincinnati Cyclones on Saturday night, the Bombers were unable to overcome their division foes for the second straight game, eventually falling 6-4. Scoring for the Bombers were Mike McLean, Dan Riedel, Greg Labenski and Tomas Zaborsky. Paul Drew, in net for the Bombers, was 23 of 28 on the night.

BOMBERS FAMILY GROWS BY TWO: The team would like to congratulate defenseman and three-time captain Greg Labenski and his wife, Joyce, on the birth of twin girls on Tuesday, January 27.

GOALIE SHUFFLE: The NHL's Florida Panthers have reassigned goaltender David Shantz to the Bombers from the Elmira Jackals. The Panthers have also recalled netminder Tyler Plante to their "AAA" affiliate, the Rochester Americans.

MORE ON SHANTZ: Compiling a record of 4-2-0-1 with a 2.35 goals against average and one shutout, David Shantz got the Bombers off to a stellar start in October and November. He's since been recalled to the Rochester Americans for 5 games and played 11 games with the Elmira Jackals. His cumulative 2.68 GAA ranks 10th in the ECHL

ROSTER ROTATION: Forward Justin Bowers was returned to the Bombers on Monday from his second call-up to the Lake Erie Monsters. Last Tuesday the Bombers traded forward Tom Zanoski to the Gwinnett Gladiators. Also on Tuesday, the Bombers were assigned forward Justin Chwedoruk by the NHL's Edmonton Oilers. Chwedoruk had been playing with the Stockton Thunder this season.
