Fresno Grizzlies News Release
Fresno, CA - The Fresno Grizzlies Community Fund is proud to announce the launch of the "Hope Through Change" campaign to support relief efforts in Southeast Asia after the devastating tsunamis struck 11 countries on December 26, 2004. Over 200,000 people died and 128,000 are still missing according to the United Nations. The devastation has prompted the Fresno Grizzlies organization to do something to help those affected by this tragedy.
The goal of "Hope Through Change" is to collect over 200,000 coins during the 2005 season. Each coin will represent each victim affected by this tragedy. Coins will be collected during each game of the 2005 season. The Grizzlies are asking all the communities of the Central Valley to get involved and donate their loose change. Collection containers will be set up throughout Grizzlies stadium. Fans will be continuously updated on the progress towards our goal of collecting 200,000 coins.
All money generated through "Hope Through Change" will be donated to United Way International's South Asia Response Fund. This fund focuses on the long-term tsunami recovery efforts.
"The marketing staff from the Fresno Grizzlies' office contacted us several months ago with the idea to collect change and help Fresno County donate to the Tsunami relief efforts," said Art Enns, VP of Campaign Development at United Way of Fresno County. "We were thrilled with the Grizzlies' idea and our staff is excited to help make it happen."
"Hope Through Change" kicks off this Saturday during the 7:05 p.m. contest versus the Tucson Sidewinders. For tickets call the Grizzlies Ticket Office at (559) 320-TIXS.
