
Sidewinders hold off Sky Sox to win, 9-8

Tucson Sidewinders News Release
Tucson, AZ - Two home runs and twelve hits power Tucson past Colorado Springs 9-8 Thursday night. The Sky Sox took an early 4-0 lead scoring four runs in the first four innings. The Sidewinders responded in the bottom of the fourth putting up 4 runs three of which came on a home run to right field by SS Sergio Santos. The home run tied the game 4-4. The Sky Sox responded in the top of the fifth scoring a run to take the lead back 5-4. The Sidewinders added two more in the bottom of the sixth on a two run home run to right by LF Doug DeVore, his third of the year, to make the game 6-5. Tucson put three more on the board in the seventh making the lead 9-5. In the top of the eighth the Sidewinders gave up two runs but managed to get out of a bases loaded jam leaving the score at 9-7. In the top of the ninth the Sidewinders found themselves in a similar predicament with bases loaded and on one out. Tucson gave up one run on a fielders choice back to the pitcher. The Sidewinders recorded the games final two outs with the tying run only 90 feet away from home on the 1-2-3 double play to end the game.
The Sidewinders offense was led by LF Doug DeVore who went 2-4 with a home run, two RBI and a run scored. DeVore's blast in the bottom of the sixth gave the Sidewinders the lead for good. 1B Conor Jackson went 3-4 with an RBI and a run while SS Sergio Santos finished the game 2-4 a Homerun three RBI and a Run.
The winning pitcher for the Sidewinders was RHP Winston Abreu who went one and two thirds innings of perfect ball. The losing pitcher for the Sky Sox was RHP Scott Chiasson who went two innings giving up two runs on three hits with three strike outs. LHP Javier Lopez closed the contest to earn his first save of the season.
The win moves the Sidewinders to 6-9 on the year and 3-4 against the Sky Sox. Tomorrow night marks the final game of the 8-game home stand as the Sidewinders and Sky Sox rap up their series. Sidewinders LHP Chris Michalak (0-1, 7.36 ERA) will take on Sky Sox RHP Mike Esposito (0-0, 6.30 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 P.M with gates opening at 5:30 P.M at Tucson Electric Park.
