Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release
Sergio Santos and Doug DeVore homered as the Tucson Sidewinders held on for a 9-8 victory over the Colorado Springs Sky Sox Thursday night at Tucson Electric Park.
The Sky Sox rallied from a 9-5 deficit, scoring two runs in the eighth and another in the ninth, before Javier Lopez slammed the door. Lopez came on after Kevin Tolar allowed a walk to Danny Ardoin and consecutive singles to Ryan Shealy and Brian Buchanan to fill the bases. Lopez got Jorge Piedra to ground out, with Ardoin scoring to cut the lead to a run.
Santos and DeVore each went 2-for-4. Santos hit a three-run blast to highlight a four-run fourth inning, that allowed Tucson to tie the score after trailing 4-0. DeVore hit a two-run shot in the sixth to put the Sidewinders ahead, 6-5. Conor Jackson led Tucson's 13-hit attack, going 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.
Josh Kroeger doubled home two runs in a three-run seventh inning. Kroeger scored what proved to be the winning run when DeVore grounded into a double play.
Buchanan and Ardoin both homered for Colorado Springs off veteran left-hander Darren Oliver. Buchanan hit a solo shot in the second inning and Ardoin belted a two-run jack in the third, to make it a 3-0 game.
Winston Abreu (1-1) pitched 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief to earn the win.
The four-game series concludes at 9:30 p.m. ET, Friday in Tucson.
