Gateway Grizzlies News Release

20 weekend dates at GCS Ballpark and the July 4th home game highlight the Gateway Grizzlies 2007 schedule released today by the Grizzlies and the Frontier League. The Grizzlies will play a 96-game schedule (48 home, 48 road) extending from May 23 through September 2. The schedule will see the Grizzlies will play 16 games against three division foes and six games against each of the other eight league teams.

The league has expanded by two teams, bringing the total number of teams to 12 for the 2007 season. Marion, Illinois and Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania have joined the league for 2007. Marion will play as the Southern Illinois Miners. They will play in a stadium currently under construction in Marion. Slippery Rock has yet to determine a nickname. They will play their games on the campus of Slippery Rock University

The Grizzlies will open the 2006 season, their seventh in the Frontier League, with a four-game set against new division foe Southern Illinois. The Grizzlies will host the Miners May 23-26. They will then play four games (two home, two road) against the rival River City Rascals. Four games at Southern Illinois round out May and begin the month of June for the Grizzlies, who play the first 16 games against either Southern Illinois or River City.

The Grizzlies home schedule will feature three daytime starts in 2007. The Grizzlies will host Traverse City in a 12:35 p.m. start Thursday June 21. On Sunday June 24 the Kalamazoo Kings are in town for a 3:05 p.m. start. The Grizzlies and Washington WildThings game Sunday August 19 will also begin at 3:05 p.m.

The division structure will change significantly in 2007. For the first time, the Frontier League will feature three divisions. The Grizzlies will compete in the West Division with River City, defending-league champion Evansville and Southern Illinois. Kalamazoo, Rockford, Traverse City and Windy City will make up the Central Division, while Chillicothe, Florence, Slippery Rock and Washington will play in the East Division.

The playoff format will also be altered. Each division winner, plus the second-place team with the best record (wild card) will advance to a best-of-five first-round series. Home field advantage will be determined by regular-season record. The winners of each series will meet in a best-of-five championship series. Home field advantage for the championship series will also be awarded via regular season record.

Season tickets are currently on sale for the 2007 season, and can be purchased by calling the Grizzlies office at 618-337-3000.
