Gateway Grizzlies News Release

SAUGET, Ill. - Outscoring the Rascals 26-1 over the club's three-game set and en route to their ninth-straight series win, the Grizzlies completed the sweep of rival River City on Sunday night at GCS Ballpark by the score of 8-1.

Gateway (43-29) holds sole possession of first place in the Frontier League West Division and showed no signs of surrendering their newly acquired front spot in the weekend wrap up. The Grizzlies scored all eight runs in the fourth through eighth frames while overcoming an early one-run deficit.

Former River City (34-38) members Chris McClendon and Jon Myers delivered huge offensive nights for the rolling Grizzlies. Myers blasted his team-leading 14th home run on a 2-for-5 night at the plate while teammate McClendon also homered in a 2-for-4 effort swinging the bat. Jonathan Johnson and Antone DeJesus also contributed multi-hit games in the shelling, hitting 2-for-3 and 3-for-5 respectively.

Starter Alex Kaminsky (8-2) clinched his eighth win of his season's campaign behind a strong six-and-two-thirds innings, allowing only one run on four hits with four strikeouts.

First place Gateway will get an off day on Monday and will return to GCS Ballpark on Tuesday to play host to the Lake Erie Crushers at 7:05 PM. Playoff tickets are now on sale through the Grizzlies Ticket Office. To get tickets call 618.337.3000 or go online to gatewaygrizzlies.com.
