Normal CornBelters News Release

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, completed a six-game road trip with a 4-2 loss on Sunday night to the Evansville Otters at Bosse Field. The game was played without lights in right field due to a power problem, and was called in the bottom of the sixth when the players had difficulty finding a popup.

The CornBelters opened the scoring in the second inning when Ernie Banks Jr. led off with a base hit followed by a one-out single from J.B. Brown. Andrew Cohn doubled to right center to score Banks, and Trey Manz singled to center to plate Brown and give the Belters a 2-0 lead.

The Otters picked up an unearned run in the third inning when Taylor Black drew a one-out walk, stole second, went to third on a fielder's choice and scored on an errant throw on a ground ball that would have ended the inning. The hosts grabbed a 4-2 lead in the fifth on a three-run homer over the center field wall by Luis Uribe with two outs.

Wynn Pelzer (1-2) pitched all six innings, giving up eight hits with three walks and four strikeouts for the win. Drew Provence (3-2) tossed five innings of five-hit ball with five walks and four strikeouts in the loss.

The CornBelters take Monday off before opening a six-game homestand on Tuesday with a 6:30 p.m. contest against the Washington Wild Things. The Belters host the Wild Things through Thursday followed by a weekend series against the River City Rascals.
