Evansville Otters Edge Normal for Eighth Straight Win

Evansville Otters News Release

(EVANSVILLE, INDIANA) - The Evansville Otters held off the Normal CornBelters 4-2 for a shortened six-inning win at Historic Bosse Field.

Evansville has now swept both Joliet and Normal to start this homestand and have won a season-high eight games in a row.

Normal took the early lead against Otters starter Wynn Pelzer by plating a pair of runs in the second inning.

Evansville responded against CornBelters pitcher Drew Provence with a Brett Chamberlain single in the fourth inning. The base hit pulled Evansville within a run and they would surge ahead with a three-run home run from outfielder Luis Uribe in the fifth.

Ahead 4-2, Pelzer kept Normal from adding any more runs in the sixth, and it proved to be valuable when the game was called in the bottom of the inning. Outfielder Runey Davis blooped a ball to center field that was lost in the darkness for a bloop single. The umpires claimed the game unplayable for the players safety and ruled in favor of a 4-2 Evansville Otters win.

The Otters improve to 35-37 after the sweep as the CornBelters fall to 25-49.

Pelzer (1-2) earns the win after allowing two runs in 6.0 innings. Provence (3-2) surrendered four runs (three earned) in his 5.0 innings for the loss.

Evansville will be off on Monday but back in action on Tuesday night against the first place Traverse City Beach Bums (45-27). Right-hander Bryce Morrow (6-6, 4.33 ERA) will start for Evansville against Traverse City righty Kurt Wunderlich (1-0, 1.29). There will be $1 popcorn available for the fans in attendance as Evansville goes for their first nine game winning streak since 2008.
