Utah Grizzlies News Release

WEST VALLEY CITY, UT - The Grizzlies began a four-game season-ending road trip on Wednesday in Cleveland and had trouble getting going as they fell 4-1 to Cleveland. The Barons mounted an offensive attack that featured 49 shots on goal. The win gives the Barons three wins in four games versus Utah in the season series.

It was a less than stellar performance in the first period for Utah who struggled against the Barons getting outshot 14-7. The only goal of the period came from Grant Stevenson, his 13th of the season, while shorthanded. Utah squandered two power play opportunities and the Barons missed on their only man advantage. Jamie Storr made 13 saves and Nolan Schaefer stopped all seven shots he faced.

In the second period, the Barons added to their lead with the period's only goal. It was scored by Ryan Clowe who took a hard rebound off the end boards after a Christian Ehrhoff shot and tucked it underneath Storr for his team-leading 26th goal of the season assisted by Ehrhoff and Jim Fahey at the 7:55 mark of the period. Cleveland outshot the Grizzlies 23-13 in the period (the most shots given up by Utah in a single period this year) and led 37-20 after two periods.

The Grizzlies couldn't get anything going in the final period as Cleveland added to their lead at the 6:59 mark with a goal by Tim Conboy who crashed the net after an Aaron Gill shot that Storr made the save on but the let the puck sneak through his glove and settle on the goal line with Conboy eventually knocking it in. Martin Sonnenberg broke up the shutout bid with his 12th goal of the season on a nice wrist shot that beat Schaefer through the five hole. The goal was assisted Randall Gelech and Jakub Koreis. Utah emptied the net with 3:47 remaining in regulation trying to mount the two-goal rally but an empty-net goal by Patrick Rissmiller put the nail in the Grizzlies coffin.

Cleveland finished the game with 49 shots, tied for the most allowed by Utah in a single game this season, and Utah finished with 27 shots. Storr made 45 saves in the game and Schaefer made 26 saves allowing just the third period blemish.

The Grizzlies road trip continues on Friday in Milwaukee with face-off scheduled for 6:00 PM (mst).
