Gateway Grizzlies News Release

SAUGET, IL - Tucker Jensen fired eight marvelous innings and the Gateway Grizzlies edged the Normal CornBelters 3-2 Friday night at GCS Ballpark for their eighth win in a row.

The eight game win streak is the Grizzlies longest since 2007. The most wins in a row in franchise history is 12 (2007). Gateway (17-7) now has the best record in the Frontier League.

Jensen allowed only two runs, one earned, on five hits in eight innings. The right-hander from Ormond Beach, FL walked no batters and struck out five.

Gateway jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a Landon Hernandez RBI double that brought in Chris McClendon.

Vladimir Frias and Michael Pair hit solo home runs in the second and fourth innings to extend the Gateway lead to three runs.

The score stayed that way until the eighth inning when Normal scored a run on a Matt Wright RBI triple and plated another run on a passed ball by Hernandez.

Richard Barrett pitched a one-two-three ninth inning and picked up his league-leading eighth save of the season.

The Grizzlies continue their homestand on Saturday night at GCS Ballpark with game two of the weekend series against CornBelters. It's the Big Screen TV Hunt for males 18 and older. Tim Brown (3-2) gets the start for the Grizzlies. First pitch is set for 7:05.
