Joliet Slammers News Release

Last time out...

The Slammers split a double header with the River City Rascals on Thursday at Silver Cross Field. In game one, Shawn Kale went the distance as the Slammers used a four-run second inning to prevail by a score of 4-0. David Christensen had a sacrifice fly, Nick Akins smacked a RBI double, Ben Hewett contributed a RBI single and Marquis Riley also had a sacrifice fly to give Joliet the 4-0 edge. Kale struck out eight batters along the way and scattered five hits while not walking anyone. But in game two the Joliet offense could never get going as they wasted a great performance by Chuck Lofgren. Lofgren went seven innings of shutout ball, scattering four hits and striking out three. River City pushed across four runs in the top of the eighth against Chase Doremus and beat the Slammers by the same score: 4-0. All of the runs came with two outs for the Rascals as the teams split the twin bill.

For Starters...

Corey Kimes is coming off a rough start against Schaumburg on June 8, where he went four innings, giving up four runs on six hits, walking two and striking out two. The 23-year old Kimes, a former star for the University of Illinois Fighting Illini, brings an undefeated record in affiliated ball to Joliet. The Ottawa, IL native went 5-0 in 2012 between the Elizabethton Twins of the Appalachian League and the Beloit Snappers of the Midwest League. In two seasons of affiliated baseball, Kimes has posted an impressive 3.25 ERA in 22 appearances including six starts. He was an 18th round selection of the Minnesota Twins in the 2011 MLB draft.

2013 against the Beach...

However they were beaten by tonight's starting pitcher Scott Dunn, who went seven innings of shutout ball to defeat Joliet.
