West Valley City Utah - The Colorado Eagles defeated the Utah Grizzlies 4-3 in a shootout Tuesday night as the Grizzlies and fans in attendance saluted veterans and active military on Veterans Day at Maverik Center.
The Grizzlies extended their unbeaten streak to three-straight games without a regulation loss as they have gone 1-0-0-2 since Friday.
No lead was safe in a game forced to the shootout as the Grizzlies led 1-0 and 3-2 and Colorado led 2-1 as each team battled back to tie from every deficit. The contest was tied for 49:57 of the 65 minutes before the shootout.
Utah took a 1-0 lead 7:07 into the second period as Vinny Scarsella and Barry Almeida setup rookie H.T. Lenz (3) in front for a power-play goal. The Eagles countered with two before Utah tied it with another power-play goal as Michael Pelech tipped home a puck off of the stick of longtime linemate Mathieu Aubin for his team leading seventh goal of the year.
The Grizzlies took a 3-2 third period lead with a four-on-four goal scored by Almeida crashing the net with T.J. Syner.
After each team scored in round one of the shootout, the Grizzlies clanged two consecutive posts as the Eagles took the two points.
Utah goaltender Joe Howe got Utah to a shootout for the second-straight start as he stopped 27 of 30 through overtime.
Utah went 2-for-7 on the power-play as they scored on the one-man advantage for the ninth-straight game.
