Ontario Reign News Release

ONTARIO, Calif. - The Ontario Reign (6-3-0-2), four-time Pacific Division Champions and proud affiliate of the NHL's 2014 Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings and Winnipeg Jets, routed the Stockton Thunder (4-7-0-0) by a 7-1 score in front of a crowd of 7,617 on Tuesday night at Citizens Business Bank Arena.

After enduring a series of early penalties, the Reign weathered the storm and managed to open the scoring when Matt Register fired a wrist shot from the left point that was deflected by Derek Couture under the glove of Thunder netminder Shane Owen for the defenseman's first of the season at 5:49. Matt White also picked up an assist.

Near the end of the first, Brady Ramsay and J.T. Barnett dropped the gloves at 6:14, much to the delight of the crowd.

In the second period Dylan Hood, fresh off his activation from the reserve list earlier in the day, helped Ontario take control of the match. At 8:56, he drove to the net while Tristan King floated a pass into the slot, and Hood fired the puck through the five-hole of Owen.

Less than a minute later, Hood used his speed again to help force a turnover, and then beat Owen once more at 9:35. Ramsay and Alex Roach picked up assists on Hood's second of the night.

Further along in the frame, the Reign went to a power-play after Brad Stebner was whistled for tripping at 12:48, and White capitalized for Ontario, swatting the puck into the open net at 13:45 after Jeff May's shot from the blueline was tipped by Geoff Walker and banked off the post to White.

Less than a minute later, the Reign extended their lead to five goals after Kyle Bigos moved the puck along to Register at the top of the zone. Register's wired a shot into the pads of Owen, allowing Ramsay to scoop up the rebound and bury it short-side for his first professional goal while simultaneously earning a Gordie Howe hat trick.

The four-goal burst in the second period, along with 17 shots, set new season-highs for Ontario as well.

Lukas Sutter eventually spoiled Jussi Olkinuora's shutout bid at 6:53 of the third period after he drilled a one-timer high to the glove side of the Reign netminder off a feed from Prab Rai.

The Reign reestablished their five-goal lead when White sent a pass into the slot, and King's shot attempt rolled to Couture, who then found the back of the net at 7:50.

Ontario capped its scoring at 12:15, when White tipped in Walker's slap pass underneath the legs of Owen for a power-play goal with Brad Stebner in the box for Stockton. Couture received the secondary assist.

Olkinuora earned the win making 30 stops; Owen took the defeat with 29 saves.
