HEAD TO HEAD - This is the third of nine meetings between the Thunder and the Rush. All-time, Wichita is 15-29-5 against Rapid City and 9-15-2 on the road.
THIRD PERIOD - Third period scoring became another key role in last night's contest. Rapid City has outscored the Thunder 6-2 in the first two meetings of the season series. Wichita is being outscored 13-7 in the final frame while Rapid City has outscored their opponent 15-8.
SEASON FIRSTS - RG Flath and Kurtis Bartliff each tallied their first goals of the season last night. Bartliff made a beautiful play after falling down to one knee and roofed it past Wayne Savage. Flath tipped home a pass and recorded his 74th goal in a Thunder uniform.
FIRING GALLERY - Wichita outshot Rapid City 35-26 last night and at one point, were outshooting the Rush 11-3 in the second. The Thunder are currently 20th in the league in shots for per game (28.13), but are fourth overall in shots allowed per game (26.50).
LIGHTNING STRIKES - Danick Gauthier has been a nice addition since being assigned from Tampa Bay. The Brossard, PQ native has three goals and two assists including two points last night. He has seven points total on the year, including his time in Florida. Dan Milan has also been solid on the blue line for Wichita. The Michigan native has racked up 14 penalty minutes, including fights in both meetings against Rapid City.
THUNDERBOLTS...Kenton Miller is tied at the top of the leaderboard for power play goals (3)...Wichita is averaging 14.13 penalty minutes per game, which is in the bottom half of the league...Wichita is 2-0-0-1 when leading after two periods...Wichita is 1-2-0-1 when outshooting the opponent...Wichita is 1-2-1-0 when outshot by the opponent...Wichita is 2-1-0-0 in two-goal games...Wichita has one more trip to Rapid City that will take place in January for a pair of games...
